A group of Lazio fans sang fascist chants in an infamous historical place in Munich on the eve of their team’s clash with Bayern Munich.
According to a report by La Gazzetta dello Sport, around a hundred Lazio supporters gathered in an infamous beer hall in Munich named Hofbräuhaus before the Champions League Round of 16 fixture against Bayern Munich. They brandished the Duce salute and sang fascist chants in the historic brewery.
The beer hall is known as the place chosen by German dictator Adolf Hitler to launch the National Socialist German Workers’ Party. Here, the Nazi autocrat announced the 25 points of his program, subsequently starting a reign of terror, leading to the Second World War and the extermination of six million Jews.
Yesterday, an “Italian tourist” was “temporarily arrested” as he showed the so-called Hitler salute in one of the restaurants in Munich, according to a local policeman who conducted the proceedings told La Presse.
Rome councillor Alessandro Onorato has criticised the Lazio fans’ gestures and said that “they are mud on the team, and on all the fans and on the city of Rome.”
