Milan set sights on Lilian Brassier and Maxence Lacroix for defensive rebuild

Whilst the Rosonerri are keen on rebuilding the defensive department of their squad ahead of next year’s campaign, Milan have set their sights on Brest’s Lilian Brassier and Wolfsburg’s Maxence Lacroix as ideal candidates in the summer market.

La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Stefano Pioli’s side are set to part ways with central defender Simon Kjaer at the end of the season as they show no desire in extending his contract beyond this season as a result of his frequent injuries and lack of consistency.

In addition, Pierre Kalulu also finds himself in the balance of possibly being offloaded despite his impeccable run of form during the 2021-22 title-winning campaign, where he blossomed under Milan tactician Stefano Pioli after having joined on a free transfer from Lyon nearly three seasons ago, as he has struggled to reach similar heights in recent period whilst on the pitch.

Consequently, the Milanese side are prepared to enter a pursuit for a new central defender in order to bolster the defensive department of their squad, as they conceded a total of 32 goals in 27 games-played within the Serie A thus far.

Milan’s primary name on the shortlist is Brest defender Lillian Brassier, as they have been monitoring him since the winter transfer window and show no signs of abandoning him as a target. The Ligue 1 outfits currently value the 24-year-old between €10m-€12m as his contract expires in the summer of 2025.

Another defender that the Rossonerri rate very highly is Wolfsburg’s Maxence Lacroix, 23-year-old Frenchman whose contract with the Bundesliga side is also set to run out at the end of the 2024-25 season.

A third option is Fulham’s Tosin Adarabioyo, 26-year-old Englishman who may be the most accessible target in the upcoming window as his contract expires at the end of this year’s current campaign.
