OFFICIAL | Daniele de Rossi appointed as interim Roma boss

Roma have now confirmed the appointment of former midfielder Daniele de Rossi as their new manager.

Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho was sacked earlier today as they remained at 9th in the table after the loss to Milan. They also lost to Lazio in the Coppa Italia, as they were knocked out of the competition.

De Rossi was linked with a move to the club since yesterday and the club have now confirmed his arrival on an initially interim basis. His initial contract expires in the summer of 2024, with reports stating that he could have the option to extend his stay depending on how the results go for the rest of the season.

De Rossi is a Roma icon, making 616 appearances and scored 63 goals for the Giallorossi in all competitions. He ranks second in the club’s all-time appearance record.

The former midfielder expressed his excitement in becoming the boss, as he thanked the Friedkins for appointing him and giving him the chance.
