Paul Mitchell leading race to become new Roma sporting director

Serie A side Roma are looking to appoint a new sporting director soon and Paul Mitchell is currently leading the race to take over.

Mitchell has also been linked with a move to Manchester United, who are making several changes in the club’s structure. La Gazzetta dello Sport state that new manager Daniele de Rossi did speak to the club in attempt to make sure that Tiago Pinto stays till the end of the season, but the attempt was futile. The Portuguese will depart at the end of this window.

There are multiple names in the fray and some of them are Ricky Massara and Francois Modesto, who seem far behind in the race. Other names are Jaiver Ribalta, Christopher Vivell and former Liverpool sporting director Michael Edwards, but Mitchell is currently the leading candidate.

Mitchell’s wide ranging CV appeals to the Giallorossi, which means that his range of contacts also impress the club. The club also like the fact that Mitchell has played the role of a sporting director and a youth director, which means that he has a wide range of capabilities.

While the Englishman does lead the race, a surprise candidate can’t be ruled out.
