The Supercoppa Italiana final is staged tonight at the Al-Awwal Stadium as Napoli and Inter face off against each other for a piece of early-season silverware.
Napoli cruised through their challenge with Fiorentina in the competition’s semi-final as they posted a 3-0 scoreline at the end of the match. Giovanni Simone opened the scoring in the 22nd minute and a late brace from Alessio Zerbin knocked the Viola out of yet another chance of gaining silverware. Currently sitting 9th in the league standings, the Partenopei have already suffered seven Serie A defeats and are 21 points away from provisional league leaders Juventus. The Neapolitans’ Scudetto defence is virtually over and all they can focus now on ending the season with at least one trophy in their bag.
Meanwhile, Inter enter the final after thumping Lazio with a similar scoreline to tonight’s opponent’s semi-final clash. Marcus Thuram, Hakan Calhanoglu and Davide Frattessi sent the Biancocelesti home and staged the Nerazzurri in contention to defend their title after having won the Supercup in the last edition. Inter have a crucial challenge after this competition in the Serie A as they go against Fiorentina with Juventus taking the leader’s spot for the time being. Simone Inzaghi’s men have the best attacking and defensive record in the league and it will be tough task for Napoli to clinch the title by defeating Inter.
