‘Scandalous, Unsportsmanlike’ – Lazio stars lash out after controversial Milan defeat

A trio of Lazio stars have made their anger very much known, on the back of the club’s Serie A defeat at the hands of Milan on Friday.

One of the more controversy-strewn fixtures of the Italian campaign to date played out at the Stadio Olimpico a short time ago.

The matchup in question saw Stefano Pioli’s Milan ultimately depart the capital with all three points, owing to a solitary strike on the part of Noah Okafor.

Post-match, however, it is not the eventual outcome which has taken its place front and centre in the headlines.

Instead, as much has been dominated by the display of referee Marco di Bello and his team of officials.

Hosts Lazio ended the evening’s action with just eight players on the pitch, after all of Luca Pellegrini, Adam Marušić and Matteo Guendouzi were given their respective marching orders.

All three red cards came amid controversy, ultimately culminating in a post-match scuffle involving both teams.

In turn, late on Friday night, it should come as little surprise to hear of Lazio’s disgruntled stars making their feelings known.

In a post on his official Instagram account, the dismissed Pellegrini, for one, left little to the imagination, in taking aim at referee Di Bello:

“I apologize to the team and our fans, for the red card. Next time I will kick the ball out of the stadium for sure, considering that the blood on my teammate’s face and the fact that he stops me was not enough for the referee. Unsportsmanlikeness won. Proud of this group, we can go out with our heads held high. Forza Lazio.”

Taking to the comments section of his teammate’s post, Ciro Immobile then followed up with an equally heated message:

“Excuse me, you ask???? But can we talk here? No, because you couldn’t do it on the pitch, there was a policeman who prevented you from doing so.”

Elsewhere, Tuttomercatoweb have revealed that Biancocelesti stopper Alessio Romagnoli could be heard shouting at the team of officials following the full-time whistle at the Olimpico, repeating one word over and over – “Scandalous”.
