Fiorentina lose to Manchester United on penalties as De Gea returns to Old Trafford

Fiorentina lost to Manchester United 5-4 in the penalty shootout of the pre-season friendly after the game ended 1-1 in regulation time. Fiorentinaโ€™s goal came from new midfield signing Simon Sohm as early as the 8th minute, before the scoring was equalled thanks to an unfortunate own goal from Robin Gosens.

United scored all of their penalties in this one but Fiorentinaโ€™s Fabiano Parisi missed, this making the difference. This game was notable because it was the return of David De Gea to the Old Trafford, for the first time after He was released. De Gea had a very good decade at United Arab and is now in his second season in Fiorentina.

For new La Viola manager Stefano Pioli, the signs were positive as Fiorentina played well overall. However, one thing they will have to look at is the form of his strikers. Neither Moise Kean nor the experienced Edin Dzeko have looked anywhere near their usual selves. They are still figuring out how to play with each other.
