The Italian national team is seeking a major reform and it canโt get better than appointing Pep Guardiola. Initial contact for the Spaniard was made and FIGC president Giovanni Malago has now confirmed the approach, while offering more details.
The Italian spoke to Cronache di Spogliatoio โ via Sportmediaset, revealing that they want to keep a communication channel open for Guardiola.
He said, confirming interest:
โI think it was right and important to open a dialogue and keep it alive.โ
โItโs absolutely not a lack of respect or consideration for other candidates, because discussions have already begun on other names, and then one can opt for someone who perhaps belongs to a more recent generational school, so to speak, and the issue there is highly subjective.โ
