Interโ€™s Marcus Thuram unwilling to take wage cut for new contract

Marcus Thuram has grown into a key player at Inter since joining from Borussia Monchengladbach but his long-term future at the Nerazzurri could be far from secure.

The Frenchman has become a more than reliable partner for Lautaro Martinez, having already found the net five times in Serie A, racking up three assists.

Tuttomercatoweb provide updates on his contract situation at Inter, revealing that the issue around renewals is increasingly of alarm at the Giuseppe Meazza. But when it comes to Thuram, things are still unclear.

This is largely because the striker is yet to take a wage-cut. His position is quite clear and it is that he wonโ€™t discuss renewals for a wage that is less than what he currently earns. If this expectation is reached, a renewal will be possible rather quickly.ย

As a result, the ball is in Interโ€™s court and they need to figure out how they react to the playerโ€™s demands.

Release clause could be key

As things stand, Thuram has a release clause in his deal that could appeal to several clubs. More importantly, it will help Inter earn a straight capital profit and it could turn out to be the biggest one they make in recent years.

So this is clearly a critical point for both parties, especially considering the finances involved.
