Italian football finds itself in the middle of a crisis again, as Andrea Pirloโs candidacy for the Azzurri role has gone up in smoke. There have been increasing doubts about the future of Paolo Maldini too and now, Italyโs sports minister Andrea Abodi has made his views clear about the matter.
Now, Pirlo will definitely not be the next manager of the national team. This is largely due to his links with a FonBet, a Russian betting company and this didnโt sit well with many at FIGC, even if it went against the technical director Maldiniโs wishes.
Now, Abodi has been asked about the matter and he has made it clear that things like these shouldnโt be happening in Calcio.
He told Piacenza Hub Network โ via Di Marzio: Pirloโs resignation from the Azzurri bench? Itโs news that speaks for itself. Itโs a situation we would have liked to have changed with greater speed and with a shared purpose that hasnโt materialised. Now we have to make up for a poor showing.โ

The outcome of the Pirlo saga is arguably something that can only unfold in Italian football, embarrassingly enough. It is a classic case of putting politics over sport, while hiring a sporting figure who should be backed to the helm. This is what lets Italian football down โ from top to bottom, and it has happened again.
