As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Juventus are eyeing Marseille midfielder Pierre-Emile Højbjerg as part of their midfield overhaul.
Bianconeri boss Luciano Spalletti wanted a midfield general over the summer even before the injury crisis set in. The Old Lady considered Leon Goretzka, who moved to Aston Villa, while Franck Kessié looked all but done before pivoting to Atalanta at the eleventh hour.
In the latest episode of the eternal chaos that engulfs the Vélodrome, Marseille would be open to sell the veteran Dane to generate funds amid their ongoing financial struggles. Højbjerg, who captains both Denmark and the Phocéens, wants to move to a prestigious club could be persuaded for the switch to the Allianz despite the lack of Champions League football.
Juve sent representatives to watch Højbjerg during Denmark’s recent game against Wales, and while he was subbed off due to a hamstring strain, it is considered to be a precautionary step and not a long term on the sidelines. In fact, his respectable record in terms of injuries over the last few years, which includes being at Tottenham Hotspur, would be of particular interest to Spalletti and Juve, who need both a leader in midfielder as well as someone who can feature regularly.
Currently valued by Transfermarkt at €15 million, the 31-year-old has two more years remaining on his €6.36m-per-year contract with Marseille.
