Serie A side Lazio picked up another league win today, going past Monza rather comfortably. This leaves them unbeaten in the competition so far, as they also took advantage of the draw involving Como and Roma.ย
Manager Rino Gattuso, who has had a topsy turvy journey as a boss, has now spoken about his campaign so far.
The Italian made it clear his career as manager deserves more credit than it gets.
He told the press about all of it, saying โ via TuttoNapoli: โHonestly, nothing, because Iโm doing the same things. Then it depends on how they want you to appear, they want to prove that Iโve failed wherever I went.โ
Gattuso expressed belief he is being held to the standards that he had as a player too.
โHere we live in a country that doesnโt analyze what you want to offer and what youโve done in your career. Perhaps Iโm paying for my personality as a player, where I was always a fiend, and people think Iโm still like that. I remember all the experiences Iโve had, but I havenโt had any tragedies.โ
Opening up further about his managerial career, he said things havenโt been as bad as many make it out to be.
โI donโt think Iโm a runaway; you have to look at the win percentages. Then we live in a sport where incidents condemn you; I lost a Champions League by a point against Milan and Napoli; what happened with the national team happened; at Hajduk I lost the championship on the last day against a team of young players that hasnโt won in twenty years. Then, if you want to ride the wave, Iโm up for it, but I do this job with fire inside.โ
The Lazio boss also opened up about how he has changed as a manager because of his experiences.
โI strongly believe in what I have in my head; Iโve made changes in recent years because at the beginning I would go home and be always nervous; now itโs up to me to give my best with the players. Iโve accepted things. unthinkable with my children, and I made the change, not them.โ
