Liverpool’s Federico Chiesa could be a low risk signing for Inter as January looms

Saturday’s defeat in the Derby della Madonnina might have been Inter’s first loss of the Serie A campaign, but it has sent shockwaves throughout the blue half of Milan all the same.

Fans are questioning just how far Cristian Chivu can take this team, if at all, as well as how much of a miss Lautaro Martínez’s presence is proving to be both on the pitch and in the dressing room.

Amidst all the noise, one thing is clear: Inter need reinforcement up front, and the hierarchy knows that. Talks are underway to tie Marcus Thuram to a new deal, while options are being considered ahead of the January transfer window.

One such option is Federico Chiesa. Inter want him, but so do several other clubs in Serie A, including Atalanta and Lazio. The once poster boy of Serie A has been a shadow of himself ever since arriving at Liverpool and is keen on a return to his homeland.

With opportunities hard to come by at Anfield, Chiesa is likely to move in January, and in him Inter could find the shining light they’ve been looking for, hoping that the boy who proved to be Italy’s hero at the Euros half a decade ago is still in there somewhere and could be a bargain coup.

Valued by Transfermarkt at €10 million, and with a little over a year and a half remaining in his £8.32m-per-year Liverpool contract, Chiesa could available for just the kind of move Inter have become famous for under Beppe Marrotta.

Should they manage to get him, the Nerazzurri will hope that there’s enough fire in his belly and a feeling he has a point to prove that could push him to help Inter mount a proper charge on all fronts.
