Maurizio Sarri on the bring of Lazio departure

ย

Serie A side Lazio met defeat at the hands of Inter in the Coppa Italia final this week. This has made Maurizio Sarriโ€™s position at the club all the more uncertain.

Gazzetta dello Sport report that these are extremely tense days for the club. This is because of the ruling for the Rome derbyโ€™s date has fell in line with what their rivals Roma wanted, leaving Sarri quite angry. He had threatened to not be present at the game at all, if the game wasnโ€™t scheduled as per Lazioโ€™s instruction.

Lazio are avoiding comment but Sarri is now expected to leave and his exit is seen as a mere formality. His comments are viewed as a possible dispute between the club and the manager and if he really doesnโ€™t show up for the derby, things can get worse.

His exit wonโ€™t be easy to implement, given that his contract runs out in 2028. Despite that, Lazio are already looking for a new manager, with Kosta Runjaic, Raffaele Palladino and Rino Gattuso seen as options.

Exit long overdue

Sarriโ€™s departure has been a long time coming. He has been vocal about his problems at the club and was simply waiting for some club to come forward, pay his separation fee, which will make it easy for the departure to go through. Lazio had been waiting for the Italian to formally ask for the exit, so that they donโ€™t have to pay a termination fee.

That is why now would be a good time for a separation. The situation feels untenable, with Sarri clearly protesting against the clubโ€™s failure to back him.
