Serie A side Lazio met defeat at the hands of Inter in the Coppa Italia final this week. This has made Maurizio Sarriโs position at the club all the more uncertain.

He had threatened to not be present at the game at all, if the game wasnโt scheduled as per Lazioโs instruction.
Lazio are avoiding comment but Sarri is now expected to leave and his exit is seen as a mere formality. His comments are viewed as a possible dispute between the club and the manager and if he really doesnโt show up for the derby, things can get worse.
His exit wonโt be easy to implement, given that his contract runs out in 2028. Despite that, Lazio are already looking for a new manager, with Kosta Runjaic, Raffaele Palladino and Rino Gattuso seen as options.

Exit long overdue
Sarriโs departure has been a long time coming. He has been vocal about his problems at the club and was simply waiting for some club to come forward, pay his separation fee, which will make it easy for the departure to go through. Lazio had been waiting for the Italian to formally ask for the exit, so that they donโt have to pay a termination fee.
That is why now would be a good time for a separation. The situation feels untenable, with Sarri clearly protesting against the clubโs failure to back him.
