Napoliโ€™s Sam Beukema: Liverpool interested but deal likely risky

Serie A Napoli roped in Sam Beukema from Bologna last summer and the Dutchman is already attracting attention from Liverpool.

Il Mattino โ€“ via Il Mio Napoli, report that the centre-back could already be on his way out of the Partenopei this summer. He is one of the names whose future in Naples is in doubt, with Liverpool boss Arne Slot keen on bringing him to Anfield.

He had previously tried to sign him during his spell at Feyenoord but at that point, the defender ended up joining Bologna. This time around, Slot wants to unite with Beukema, with the Reds interested in offering a fee of โ‚ฌ30 million in the summer.

As much as the idea of a reunion would appeal to Slot, the move will be risky. This is mainly because Beukema hasnโ€™t always been impressive at Napoli.

Antonio Conte, as a result, hasnโ€™t seen him as a regular and the 27-year-old has simply been a second-choice in the centre-back positions.

There is no doubt about Beukemaโ€™s ability, though. He stood out on and off the ball at Bologna, impressing quite a bit when building up play and he also put in a remarkable performance against Liverpool themselves in the Champions League.

But as of now, he has to rebuild his career and seek regular first-team football. With Ibrahima Konate potentially signing a new deal, he is unlikely to get that at Merseyside.

Staying at Napoli also may not be a bad idea for him. Juan Jesus is set to leave, which will leave Conte looking for a centre-back option. In Beukema, he may have one at home.
