Juventus’s ongoing and seemingly midfield injury crisis could see Pape Sarr make his debut for the Old Lady sooner than Luciano Spalletti would have liked.
The Senegal international arrived from Spurs with a hamstring strain and has just returned to training. As reported by Corriere dello Sport, Spalletti is considering whether to take him with the squad for the trip to Sassuolo as a bench option, with an eye on handing him his debut against Nijmegen in the Europa League next week.
Manuel Locatello and Khéphren Thuram have recently underwent surgeries and are expected to remain out until at least the turn of the year. Locatelli has had surgery for a lateral meniscus tear in right knee, while Thuram underwent surgery to treat chondropathy of the patella, also in his right knee.
Weston McKennie, returning from a muscular issue, could be available for the Sassuolo game, while Douglas Luiz and Teun Koopmeiners are expected to start against the Neroverdi.
For the coming weeks, Spalletti will have to chop and change and look for several combinations in the middle of the park, hoping no new hiccups occur after what have been a cataclysmic injury-ridden weeks to kick off the new season.
