Serie A side Milan picked up a 3-2 win over Atalanta in a game that got a bit nervous towards the end. But the Rossoneri were flying before La Dea got a goal back and were good value for the triumph.
Ruben Amorim spoke to Sky Italia about the tie and he appeared pleased, despite Atalanta nearly making it 3-3 very late in the game.
The Portuguese said – via MilanNews: “I think the result is the most important thing at the end of the match, but we have to analyze the performance: with this schedule and considering that we almost scored the fourth goal in the match.”
“Even the fans started to sense this nervousness after the 3-1. I think in some ways we deserved to come out of this match with this state of mind for the last twenty-five minutes. So, considering the ninety minutes, we played well for the first sixty-six or sixty-five minutes and then not so well.”
Amorim also revealed that Milan were looking for the fourth goal, which led to them conceding two goals in quick succession.
“I don’t know exactly what the word ‘distracted’ means or implies. We were a little tired, perhaps Atalanta too, because they also played midweek.”
“Let’s just say the momentum of the game changed completely after the 3-1: we stopped pressing, and the nerves started to creep in. It can happen in football; we need to be more consistent in terms of performances, results, and, even if we have to struggle, struggle less.”
Milan remain unbeaten in the league and have recovered quite well after the Europa League loss to Benfica. As a result, they find themselves at fourth in the table, only five points behind leaders Inter.
