Why Alessandro Bastoni’s move to Barcelona has cooled off

Newly crowned Serie A champions Inter can yet lose Alessandro Bastoni to Barcelona but for now, the deal has cooled off.

La Gazzetta dello Sport have some details about the scenario, saying that Barcelona expected the defender to express his willingness to join them by informing the Nerazzurri about his desire to leave.

They have been left disappointed that this hasn’t happened, with Inter’s price tag still very much at €70 million. There have been suggestions that a €50 million could have been enough, but Cristian Chivu’s side have never shown any willingness to reduce this price.

It is believed that Barcelona will not have the finances to execute a move for the Italy internaitonal. Robert Lewandowski is leaving in the summer and this would leave the Catalan side looking for a striker and they would spend mainly on that position.

Bastoni has not even given a nudge to Inter about his intentions to leave, which is making the task difficult.

Inter should now keep Bastoni

It now does seem like Bastoni’s move to Barcelona will not work out. Inter’s title win only strengthens their position and usually, they always like to keep a strong spine together, regardless of whether they win silverware or not.

Bastoni is Inter through and through and the last player to formally ask for a transfer. That defines everything about the situation, as things stand.
