Why Scott McTominay is yet to sign Napoli renewal

Napoli havenโ€™t been off to a great start in the Serie A and the Champions League and there have been suggestions of dressing room rifts. But amidst all of that, doubts around the future of Scott McTominay continue to grow in the South of Italy.

Tuttomercatoweb take note of what is really going on, as they delve deeper into Napoliโ€™s problems at tying him down to a renewal.

McTominayโ€™s current deal runs out in the summer of 2028 and he earns โ‚ฌ4 million per season. But the midfielder and his agent are demanding much more than that to sign a renewal, with Colin Murdock having initially started with the wage demand of โ‚ฌ12 million per season.

This wouldโ€™ve made McTominay the highest paid player in the Serie A. But after contacts, these demands reduced and it was believed โ‚ฌ10 million could prove enough. But more discussions were held and there is a growing belief that the player will settle for even โ‚ฌ8 million to โ‚ฌ9 million per season too.

But Napoli arenโ€™t a club that offer generous renewals. At the same time, if McTominay doesnโ€™t renew, Aurelio de Laurentiis will execute an exit as there will only be a year left on his contract in 2027. Keeping him further would come as a risk as the Scotsmanโ€™s value will reduce and a sale would make most sense.
