Francesco Totti was awarded the inaugural โLegend of Sportโ award at the annual Gazzetta Sports Awards yesterday.
The lifetime achievement award, which celebrates the Italian sports personalities of the era, was a tribute to Tottiโs 25-year-career with boyhood club Roma and the Italy national team.
โโLegendโ is a big word, but I am very happy to receive the first of these,โ the 40-year-old said.
Following the presentation, Italian actor and lifelong Roma fan Carlo Verdone felicitated Totti in a video message.
โYou brought the amazement into the stadium,โ the 67-year-old said.
Totti currently works as a director at Roma.
