Italian Clubs Drawn in Knockout Rounds of European Competitions

Both the draw for the Champions League Round of 16 and Europa League Round of 32 were held earlier today.

There are a combined six Italian clubs in the competitions, two in the Champions and four in Europa.

Juventus were the first team drawn from the Runner’s Up pot and will face Tottenham Hotspur. The first leg will be played at the Allianz Stadium in Turin on 13 February with the return leg at Wembley Stadium on 7 March.

Roma will face Ukrainian champions Shakhtar Donetsk in the last-16 of the Champions League. The Giallorossi will travel to Ukraine for the first leg on Wednesday 21 February, with the return leg at the Stadio Olimpico coming on Tuesday 13 March.

After finishing third in their Champions League group, Napoli were entered into the Europa League draw. Maurizio Sarri’s squad will host RB Leipzig on the 15th of February and then travel to Germany on 22 February.

Despite winning their group, Atalanta were handed a tough draw against German club Borussia Dortmund. The club from Bergamo will visit the Westfalenstadion on 15 February and be hosts at the Mapei Stadium on 22 February.

A.C. Milan were drawn to take on Bulgarian side, Ludogrets. The first match will be played on 15 February at the Ludogorets Arena with the return match one week later at San Siro.

Lastly, Lazio will face off against FC Steaua Bucuresti. I Biancocelesti will travel to Romania on 15 February with the return match at the Stadio Olimpico on 22 February.

The last time an Italian club won a European competition was during the 2009-10 season courtesy of Jose Mourhino’s treble-winning Inter side.
