Pirlo, Batistuta & others obtain UEFA A coaching badge

Andrea Pirlo took his first steps towards football management by obtaining the UEFA A license, following the completion of the FIGC’s Settore Tecnico course at the federation’s training complex in Coverciano.

Eight other well-known football stars who completed the course alongside Pirlo, included: Roma and Fiorentina icon Gabriel Batistuta, recently-retired Thiago Motta, former Parma and Napoli centre-back, Paolo Cannavaro, World Cup champion Alberto Gilardino, former Milan defender Daniele Bonera, ex-Lazio star Matuzalém, former Milan left-back José Chamot and Juve strongman Paolo Montero.

The qualification means they can manage any youth team, women’s team and men’s team upto Serie C—the third-division in Italian football.

They can also register as assistant managers in Serie A and Serie B, but will need further study and experience before they can take up the main job in the top two divisions.
