Official: AC Milan fire Marco Giampaolo

It had been the worst kept secret in Italian football, but on Tuesday, AC Milan issued an official statement to confirm they had sacked Coach Marco Giampaolo.

“AC Milan announces it has relieved Mr. Marco Giampaolo from his position as coach of the First Team,” read a statement posted on the official website. “The Club is grateful to Marco for the work carried out and wishes him all the best to come in his professional career.”

The former Empoli and Sampdoria man had made the move to San Siro in the summer, but poor performances, a lack of direction and four defeats from the first seven games meant that the Milan leadership had seen enough.

Former Fiorentina boss Stefano Pioli is expected to be hired as his replacement some time on Wednesday.
