Serie A make astounding misstep with anti-racism campaign

After many controversial incidents of racism involving sides in Serie A, the league itself has come under fire for its commission of artwork depicting monkeys for its campaign against discrimination.

The move was universally panned on social media, with many incredulous over how the official body could make such a stunning misstep.

When questioned on the propriety of the images, the artist responsible Simone Fugazzotto defended his work, insisting that the commission was a metaphor for all variations of man, however it has been seen as yet another example of just how tone deaf the Italian league is on this issue.

Both AS Roma and AC Milan have issued official statements to condemn this campaign in its current form.

“Art can be powerful, but we strongly disagree with the use of monkeys as images in the fight against racism and were surprised by the total lack of consultation,” the Milanese club wrote on their official Twitter account.
