Italian PFA president on clubs restarting training sessions: “It doesn’t make sense and it’s dangerous”

The president of the Italian Footballers’ Association, Damiano Tommasi, released a statement today following reports that several Serie A clubs were pushing for training sessions to start again, some as early as next Monday.

“To go to training now, two months before the league starts again doesn’t make sense, and it’s dangerous. In Spain there are tens of players who have tested positive [for COVID-19], while in Italy not everyone has tested so there might be more asymptomatic people than we think.”

“We are in direct contact with players who have contracted it as well as our medical advisors. We’re looking at the subject of the consequences that this virus will leave on the bodies of those who have it and those who show no symptoms. This is something which can’t be underestimated and you can’t take pneumonia of this kind lightly.”
