Paulo Fonseca on Lorenzo Pellegrini: “He has all the qualities needed to be captain in the future.”

In an interview with Sky Sport Italia, AS Roma manager Paulo Fonseca discussed the comments made by club legend Francesco Totti regarding midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini’s captaincy credentials, as well as how his squad are managing with quarantine.

“Honestly, I think Lorenzo has the strong character needed to become captain. He has all the qualities needed to be captain in the future, I agree with Totti.”

“Right now we are keeping contact with the players, they each have a personalised work programme. What we check are weights and nutrition, which are very important. What’s important to know is when we will start again and when next season will begin so that we can better prepare the work. I don’t think it would take that long [for players to be match fit again], it will be a few weeks because they haven’t stopped completely, they are still working.”

“It’s difficult to say [if the season will be played out], right now everyone’s health is the most important thing. On our part we would be ready to play in the summer, but there will have to be the right conditions in place to go back to playing.”
