Roma appeal over Hellas Verona forfeit defeat rejected

Roma have seen their appeal over the 3-0 forfeit imposed on them against Hellas Verona turned down, as reported by Gazzetta dello Sport and Sky Italia.

The Giallorossi had been handed the defeat after it was found that Amadou Diawara was ineligible to play, despite coming in the club’s match against Hellas Verona in September. The midfielder had not featured on the club’s 25-man squad list for the league season and was too old to be registered as a youth player.

Although the match had ended 0-0, the league authorities’ sporting judge ruled that the three points would be awarded to Hellas as a result of Roma’s blunder. With the case going to an appeal, the Italian FA’s tribunal has decided against overturning the original decision.
