Tensions between Italian PFA and Serie A officials as 1/3 pay cut imposed on players

Serie A officials released a statement this afternoon following a meeting between representatives from all club bar Juventus, in which plans were outlined to impose a 1/3 pay cut on all players as a result of the postponing of games.

This would amount to the four months’ worth of wages, implementing the same agreement Juventus came to with their first-team squad independently. The measure would only take effect should it become impossible to restart Serie A in the coming months.

The Italian Players’ Association then released a statement of their own in which they slammed the measures as “inadmissible”. The association accused league officials of putting the economic burden of the situation on players, which “reflects on the entrepreneurial credibility of those who are guiding the world of football in this difficult time.”
