Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter striker Lautaro Martínez has confirmed his intention of staying with the Nerazzurri, dismissing links with Barcelona.
“It’s true, there were talks with Barcelona, that was the road we were on, although I wouldn’t be able to say how close I was to the club. But I was very clear with Conte, I told him ‘My head is here, that’s a promise, I won’t be affected.’ But now that’s passed by, I’ll be renewing with Inter.”
“They’ll find the right time to make it official, in the meantime I’ll be focusing on playing. My future is here, I see myself in Milan over the long term. I like everything about this city – the food, the relationship with the fans, the team, only positive feelings.”
“‘Favourites’ is not a word I like. Of course, being top of the table is a positive feeling, I’d never been that far ahead of second place. It’s pleasing, because it’s not a coincidence but rather the result of what we’ve been doing with the manager. We’ve been with Conte for two years, and these days we really are a different and more compact team, were everyone fights for their team-mate first and themselves second – that’s a good sign.”
“People spoke about the pact that we made with the manager. It’s very simple – being knocked out of the Champions League hurt us a lot. So at Appiano we told ourselves that from then on there was only one objective left, the Scudetto.”
“[If we win] I would get a tattoo for my first trophy.”
