Antonio Conte on Tottenham’s disallowed goal v Sporting: “A lot of injustice”

Tottenham boss Antonio Conte has stated that ‘injustice’ has been done against Spurs following the side’s disallowed goal v Sporting.

The Lilywhites had won the game and had won qualification to the next round of the Champions League as Harry Kane had scored in the 95th minute. But after a VAR check that lasted four minutes, the goal was disallowed since Kane was said to be offside when Emerson Royal passed to him despite the ball coming off a Sporting defender.

After the game, Conte spoke to BTSport and he gave his views about the decision: “The ball was in front of Kane and it is a goal. I don’t understand the line that VAR put. It is very difficult to comment on these decisions but I think VAR is damaging [the game].

“A lot of injustice [has been done] because I repeat, I don’t like these kinds of situations because there are not positive things.”

Conte was sent off after the goal was disallowed, meaning that he will not be on the bench for Spurs’ game against Marseille.

On the sending off, the Italian said: “All the people came inside the pitch after the decision and then they came to give me the red card because maybe, I was the most popular person on the pitch.”
