Ballon d’Or 2022: The numbers behind Dusan Vlahovic’s 17th placed finish

Dusan Vlahovic has finished 17th in the Ballon D’or rankings, tied in that place with Liverpool’s Luis Diaz and Manchester United’s Casemiro.

While Vlahovic’s numbers have dropped at Juventus at Max Allegri, the Serbian has still scored at a very healthy rate. In the first half of the previous season, Vlahovic was very impressive in an attacking system at Fiorentina under Vincenzo Italiano. In the first half of the 2021/22 season, the Serb notched up 17 goals and two assists from 21 Serie A appearances.

During the marksman’s time in Florence, manager Vincenzo Italiano did not have to worry about one thing, finding the back of the net. But with Vlahovic leaving Fiorentina to join Juventus in the winter transfer window in 2022, La Viola’s struggles in front of the goal since the forward’s departure speak widely of his outstanding offensive abilities.

After joining Juventus, Vlahovic found the nets seven times and amassed one assist from 15 league matches to finish second on the list of Capocannoniere, just three goals behind Lazio’s Ciro Immobile.

Often compared with Manchester City’s Erling Braut Haaland, the 22-year-old has continued to produce for the Old Lady this season, having garnered six goals from nine league appearances thus far. Although the team is underperforming, it would be safe to say that the 17th-placed finish earned by the Serbian in the Ballon D’or rankings is well-deserved.
