Chelsea set to focus on Denzel Dumfries if Jules Kounde joins Barcelona

Chelsea’s pursuit of Barcelona target Jules Kounde is proving to be a marathon and a gruelling experience, especially for the ones from England. Inter’s Denzel Dumfries could be an alternative to Kounde for Thomas Tuchel’s side.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Chelsea have made fresh contact with Inter to enquire about the availability of Denzel Dumfries.

The Blues have been showing an interest in the Dutchman since they started negotiating a transfer for Romelu Lukaku earlier in the summer transfer window.

Chelsea boss Tuchel even asked the club to include Dumfries in the deal for Lukaku, but the idea was not materialized back then.

Now, with Jules Kounde closing in on joining Barcelona, Chelsea are reportedly looking to shift their focus toward the 26-year-old wing-back.

On the contrary, Inter don’t want to sell the former PSV star for a figure of less than €40 million. The Nerazzurri have already lost Ivan Perisic this summer, making them light in the wing-back department.

In the event of Dumfries’ departure, the club will need to land another wing-back. And that’s why Inter want a fair price in return for the services of the Rotterdam-born star, who has three years left on his contract at Inter.

The Italian side was close to letting Milan Skriniar leave a few weeks ago, but recent developments have seen Inter trying to convince the defender to sign an extension.

If Skriniar ends up staying at Inter, Simone Inzaghi’s side could listen to offers for Dumfries, who has multiple suitors in the ongoing summer transfer market.
