Family of Roma’s Zaniolo on incident involving sister: “We have sent our lawyers.”

The family of Roma’s Nicolo Zaniolo has condemned the abuse and insults that the player has received following the club’s win over Roma.

La Spezia is where Zaniolo was born and it is where his family still lives in. Nicolo’s sister Benedetta found offensive messages towards her brother written on the bathroom walls of her school. Some messages on the walls said things like ‘traitor’, ‘we’ll beat you up at anytime we want’ and more.

The player’s family, as reported by Il Messaggero, have released a statement and said: “In the light of what happened – moreover widely reported by the press, regarding cowards, threats, serious insults and shameful verbal attacks by third parties against our families and above all against a minor in an educational institution, we have given mandate to lawyer Antonio Conte to file complaints in the appropriate places.

“First of all towards the postal police in order to identify the social media accounts responsible for such conduct. We have sent our lawyer to investigate and evaluate, even articles that have appeared in some newspapers that have incited violence against our son.”

Zaniolo was involved in the game against Spezia and was indirectly involved in the goal, as he was fouled in the box late in stoppage time to win a penalty that Tammy Abraham slotted home.
