“My intention is to stay at Fiorentina,” Arsenal’s Lucas Torreira admits

Lucas Torreira’s future at Fiorentina looks uncertain as the parties involved in negotiations over a potential deal for the midfielder have not reached an agreement yet.

In an interview with fanpage.it, the Uruguayan, however, has admitted that he would like to stay in Florence. He was quoted as saying,

“My intention is to stay at Fiorentina. But the club will need to find an agreement with Arsenal. I am very well in Florence. I am very well in Italy.”

Since joining Fiorentina on a season-long loan deal last summer, the former Sampdoria star has emerged as a fan favourite for La Viola.

Under the stewardship of Vincenzo Italiano, Torreira made 31 league starts, having provided the club with five goals and one assist in Serie A 2021/22 campaign.

The 26-year-old midfielder, who has failed to earn the favour of Mikel Arteta at Arsenal, has an option to buy worth €15million, which expires on June 1, 2022.

Should Fiorentina fail to reach an agreement with Arsenal over the permanent signing of the South American, the player will have to return to Arsenal, where his contract runs until June 2023.
