Serie A PREVIEW: Fiorentina vs Juventus | MATCHDAY 38

Driven by the idea of capturing the remaining European spot, Fiorentina will host Juventus in their last fixture of the 2021/22 Serie A campaign.

With the Champions League already secured, Juventus don’t have a particular target to aim at on Saturday evening. But they would undoubtedly like to finish the campaign on a high note and with three points.

On the other hand, Fiorentina will be determined to seal their European destiny. Currently standing in the seventh position, Fiorentina and Vincenzo Italiano would feel that they deserve better. A win will certainly lead them to the doorstep of Europe, while a defeat means they will need a favour from Atalanta, who host Empoli.

Over the last few weeks, neither team has enjoyed a rich vein of form, with La Viola only winning one of the last five games in Serie A. Juventus have lost one but have also drawn a couple of matches during the same time span.

The recent form (in the last five matches in Serie A)

Fiorentina: L-L-L-W-L

Juventus: D-W-W-L-D

Team News

Gaetano Castrovilli and Riccardo Sottil will be out through their respective injury issues. Youssef Maleh is suspended and thus will miss Fiorentina’s final encounter against the Old Lady. Álvaro Odriozola has been included in the squad and could play a part in the game.

As for Juventus, there are multiple injury woes, with the likes of Arthur Melo, Danilo, Kaio Jorge, Federico Chiesa, and Mattia De Sciglio all missing out on the trip to Stadio Artemio Franchi. Weston McKennie has made a return from his injury and could play a certain portion of the match on Saturday. Juve boss Massimiliano Allegri confirmed on Friday afternoon that Giorgio Chiellini would start. It would be interesting to see whether or not Paulo Dybala follows suit.

Predicted XIs

Fiorentina (4-3-3): Terracciano; Odriozola, Milenkovic, Igor, Biraghi; Bonaventura, Amrabat, Duncan; Gonzalez, Cabral, Ikone

Juventus (3-5-2): Perin; De Ligt, Bonucci, Chiellini; Bernardeschi, Locatelli, Miretti, Rabiot, Alex Sandro; Dybala, Kean

When the European dreams are at the stake, La Viola could carry out an upset. Fiorentina will also be looking to avenge their defeat to Bianconeri in the semi-final of this season’s Coppa Italia. The Old Lady will be willing to deliver Chiellini and Dybala a proper send-off with a triumph.
