Genoa’s Manolo Portanova slapped with prison sentence

Genoa player Manolo Portanova has been slapped with a prison sentence for sexual assault and gangrape.

Along with two of his friends, Portanova was accused of gangraping a 21-year-old student. On November 22, 2021, during a long hearing prosecutor Nicola Marini had asked for 6 years of sentence for Portanova and Alessio Langella..

As per La Repubblica, court of Siena today issued a prison sentence of six years to Portanova after an extended procedure. The court sentenced the footballer, jointly with another defendant, to pay a compensation of €100,000 to the girl and €20,000 to her mother.

The story, in the reconstruction carried out by the investigators and the prosecutor’s office, dates back to the night between 30th and 31st May 2021. That evening Portanova, together with the other two defendants, met the young woman in an apartment in the center of Siena, a stone’s throw from Piazza del Campo.

The student, who was assisted by the lawyer Jacopo Meini, had already been in contact with the footballer for a few weeks, and the two had exchanged messages on their cell phone. Then, that evening, the girl, after a dinner with a friend, would join Portanova at the apartment, accepting an invitation to a party. The two allegedly secluded themselves in a room, and Portanova’s friends – despite the girl’s refusals – abused her.
