Marseille closing in on Inter’s Alexis Sanchez; Villarreal waiting in the background

Even a few days ago, it was looking as if Inter would end up terminating the contract of Alexis Sanchez to save a portion of the Chilean’s wages. But the recent developments around the former Arsenal star have hinted at his potential transfer to Marseille.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Marseille are confident of completing the signing of Alexis Sanchez from Inter in the next few days.

The report understands that it was Marseille’s newly-hired manager Igor Tudor, who had asked the club to secure the services of the 33-year-old forward.

Besides the Ligue 1 side, Villarreal have shown interest in the former Manchester United striker. But it is understood that Sanchez’s agent is negotiating a salary with the French side.

At Marseille, Sanchez will get Champions League football. Amid the interest from these foreign clubs, staying at Inter doesn’t appear to be an option for the ex-Barcelona superstar.

Since moving to Italy in 2019 from Manchester United, Sanchez has made 108 appearances for the Nerazzurri, racking up 20 goals and 23 assists across all competitions.

The departure of the South American, who has a contract in the Milan-based club until June 2023, would save Inter a gross amount of around €5 million in the player’s salary.
