Serie A 2022/23 | MATCH REPORT: Inter 3-0 Spezia

Inter secured their first big win of the season, with Spezia deservedly getting a 3-0 beating at the hands of Simone Inzaghi’s men.

A late fixture on Saturday evening saw a San Siro, flooded with the bodies of black and blue, host Spezia, who had secured a 1-0 win over Empoli in their previous matchday. Nevertheless, coming into the game, Spezia boss Luca Gotti did affirm that it would be difficult for them to challenge Inter, which eventually turned out to be the case.

Lacking that heavyweight name in their line-up, Spezia were up against a side that has made no compromise while strengthening their squad over the summer transfer window. On paper, the difference was apparent, and the performance followed suit, with the “Lu-La” duo making magic on the field for the time this season.

As Romelu Lukaku became the provider, Lautaro Martínez broke the deadlock with the lethal finish in the 35th minute of the game. The first half ended with Inter going into the dressing room with a 1-0 lead.

The hosts kept the pressure on the visitors from the start of the second half. A tidy bit of play from Lukaku down the left of Spezia’s defence led to Hakan Calhanoglu getting an opportunity to extend the scoreline. The Turkish doesn’t miss those chances as he made 2-0 for Inter in the 52nd minute of the match.

Spezia’s attackers could not put the Inter defence in danger, somewhat writing themselves off from the equation of a rare comeback. The game soon became one-sided, just what Edin Dzeko needed to show his authority. Selflessly, the former Roma star squared the ball to Joaquín Correa, who notched up the Nerazzurri’s last goal of the evening in the 82nd minute of the play.

With that, the referee brought the game to a close. As a result, Inter got to the top of the table, having amassed six points from two matches. On the other hand, Spezia’s perfect start to the Serie A 2022/23 campaign took a hit, with Bianchi beaten in the league for the first time.
