Former Inter goalkeeper Gianluca Pagliuca has given an interview to SempreInter where he showed nothing but respect for the Nerazzurri’s current number one André Onana.
“Against Porto, in my opinion, he was the best player on the pitch. I really liked his performance a lot”.
“The sense of security he spreads, his ball distribution, rushing out, the decisive saves, especially the ones that look easy but in reality are very difficult, when the ball bounced around in front of you. He really did well, he gave me a sense of security. He had a fantastic game”.
The Nerazzurri are facing a possibile revolution where eleven players could leave the club at the end of the season. It is believed that Onana does not make that list and for Pagliuca, rightly so.
“If a foreign club were to arrive and offer €100 million, Inter would do well to sell him. Otherwise, unless a huge big money offer were to arrive, I think Inter will keep him”.
Inter will have a tight schedule after the international break but Onana is likely to play almost every game between Serie A and Champions League with skipper Samir Handanović only likely to grab a couple of starts before the end of the season.
Pagliuca believes this current hierarchy is good for Inter: “If I have understood Inzaghi’s mentality correctly, Handanovic will play in the Coppa Italia and a couple of matches in the Serie A”.
“Handanovic will still give satisfactory performances but the club’s decision is clear. Handanovic has done some extraordinary things. He no longer is what he once was but he remains a seasoned goalkeeper. It’s only right that he plays in the Coppa Italia.”
For many Inter fans, Onana has already proved to be an upgrade on Handanović, despite having joined the club only in the summer of 2022.
