New Italy boss Luciano Spalletti: “First time I have a president who gives me what I want”

Luciano Spalletti spoke to the media tonight, ahead of his debut on the bench for Italy tomorrow when they take on North Macedonia.

The ex-Napoli boss spoke about certain injured players such as Federico Chiesa and Lorenzo Pellegrini, as Calciomercato have reported.

The Italian said: “We have 30 players available and we trust all of them, there are also others. Then it’s the first time I’ve had a President who gives me all the ones I wanted, I’ve never had a president like that.”

Spalletti may have been throwing a sneaky dig at his former employers Napoli, after leaving the Scudetto winners earlier this summer.

Italy take on North Macedonia tomorrow in their Euro Qualification group. Italy currently sit third in the group, behind England and Ukraine. They have however played one game less than Ukraine, and two less than England. They began their campaign with a 2-1 loss at home to England, before defeating Malta at the end of March.

The Azzurri will have painful memories of their last meeting with North Macedonia. It was the game that infamously kept them from competing at the World Cup. That defeat will live long in history as an embarrassment of the highest order.

Spalletti’s men will be keen to make things right tomorrow, and put on a strong display.
