OFFICIAL | Emil Audero joins Inter from Sampdoria

Goalkeeper Emil Audero (26) has joined Inter from Sampdoria on an initial loan deal.

Inter were in desperate need of goalkeepers after both André Onana and Samir Handanovič departed the club this summer. Yann Sommer already joined the Nerazzurri from Bayern Munich. Audero will most likely start out as the second goalkeeper, but will no doubt try to challenge Sommer for the main spot in goal.

Audero joins Inter on loan with an option to buy included in the deal. He did his medical tests in Milan on Thursday. The 26-year-old has been playing for Sampdoria since July 2018. Last season, he featured 25 times for the team that was relegated to Serie B. In the 2021/22 season he played in crucial role in keeping Sampdoria up, saving a penalty against rivals Genoa in the last seconds of the match.

A fun background detail in this deal: Audero is a youth product of Juventus. He also played for Venezia. Juventus sold him to Sampdoria in 2019 for a fee of €20M.
