Stefano Pioli at risk of losing Milan job in case of Champions League exit

Milan boss Stefano Pioli’s job is now said to be far from secure and he could be at risk of sacking, if the Rossoneri exit the Champions League.

Milan’s loss to Borussia Dortmund yesterday puts them on the cusp on an exit from the competition. Only a miracle can save them and the Rossoneri would have to beat Newcastle United in the next game and hope that Borussia Dortmund beat Paris Saint-Germain.

For Pioli, it could cost more than just a spot in the knockout stages. La Repubblica state that considering the investment made in the club, sporting achievements are likely to drive economic results and a knockout from the Champions League would mean that Milan could miss out on a total of 160 million.

Gerry Cardinale had received a sum from the Elliot fund and there is pressure on him to earn a return as close as possible to the amount he received. And the way things are going, Milan are missing out on vital finances and a failure to qualify for the next round could prove dangerous for Pioli.
