Victor Osimhen expresses uncertainty over Napoli future

Napoli star Victor Osimhen has expressed uncertainty about his future at the Partenopei, stating that he will speak to the club and his agents at the end of the campaign.

The striker scored twice for the Naples-based side against Eintracht Frankfurt yesterday, helping them in picking up a 5-0 win on aggregate and taking Napoli to the quarter-finals of the Champions League for the first time in the club’s history.

Osimhen has been linked with the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United in recent weeks and Jorge Mendes had even attempted a swap deal involving him and Cristiano Ronaldo at the end of the previous summer transfer window.

The Nigerian striker spoke to Sport1 recently and he gave his thoughts about his future, expressing his uncertainty: “I don’t know what the future holds. I think I’m on the right track. At the end of the season, I will sit down with my agents and discuss everything. I will also be in talks with the club. I am incredibly grateful to Naples. We will find a good solution together.”

Chelsea have been linked with a move for the Nigerian in recent days and Didier Drogba is one of Osimhen’s role models. He confirmed that, stating that he looks upto the ex-Blues striker.

“Didier Drogba is my idol. I loved watching him play as a kid. The way he played and what he did as a guy is unbelievable. I look up to him. I always wanted to be like him. I’m glad I’m now succeeding in a competition he put his stamp on so much.”

Osimhen has previously expressed his admiration for ex-Wolfsburg star Mario Gomez and he spoke about the former Germany international, expressing gratitude for helping him during his time at Wolfsburg.

“I look back on a special experience because I played with Mario Gomez. I enjoyed watching him and learned a lot from him. He guided me when he was there and gave me valuable tips. I am very happy that I had him by my side in Wolfsburg during my first year in Europe. He really helped me a lot. I am eternally grateful to him for that. Wolfsburg was a good opportunity for me to grow. I also learned from these setbacks. The time in Wolfsburg made me who I am today.”
