Victor Osimhen has expressed his admiration for the Premier League, revealing that he might end up playing in England someday.
Osimhen has been linked with a move to Manchester United and Chelsea in recent months and weeks. Jorge Mendes had tried to bring Osimhen to United last summer in a potential swap deal involving Cristiano Ronaldo. But the move never worked out, as there was little time left in the window.
But the clubs retain their interest in the Nigerian, who spoke to Corriere della Sera about a range of topics. He also spoke about the Premier League and the lure it represents.
He stated: “I think it is an ambition of all players. And who knows, one day. Right now, I assure you, it doesn’t even cross my mind. It would distract me from a beautiful season. [I’m thinking of] Only Napoli.”
The striker also spoke about his playing style and what dictates his approach to the game – his mind, instinct or luck. Osimhen stated that it is his mind that allows him to play the way that he does.
“Head. On the pitch, I watch everything. I run and watch. You have to decide in a second if you don’t want to give time to the defender. Let’s say I think quickly.”
In the interview, Osimhen also revealed that Didier Drogba is his idol. He was also asked about as to when Napoli started believing in the idea of winning the Scudetto.
The striker stated: “Before we even started winning. And there is a preserved image that testifies to the moment. It was summer and after a fairly hard training session, I was talking to Anguissa. I said to him: ‘Frank, you know that our team is strong and we can really try to win the Scudetto’. He was skeptical and I convinced him. Spalletti approaches and asks us what we are talking about. I tell him, he looks at me and says: ‘if your teammates are convinced, as you are, yes we can try’. This is how our beautiful story was born, made up of matches, training sessions, men who don’t spare themselves. We are made of leaders.”
Napoli are currently 18 points clear at the top of the Serie A and pretty much have one hand on the Scudetto already.
