A statistical comparison of Inter and Juventus ahead of the huge Serie A clash

Juventus visit Inter in the Serie A for their huge clash later today and while it may not decide the title race, it may give signs for as to who is likely to win the Scudetto.

Both teams have been excellent so far. There is only a one-point gap between them, with Inter having a game in hand. But the two sides somewhat exist on different sides of the coin. Stats suggest that Inter are more free-flowing going forward, whereas Juve are very reliant on their solid defending and pragmatism, something which Max Allegri likes.

Inter have an xG of 44.7, which is way ahead of anyone else in the league. Juve are at fourth in that regard, with an xG of only 33.7. Inter have scored 50 goals, overperforming on their xG by a 5.3, with Juve overperforming on their xG by 2.3.

Juve thrive on the other side, though. They have allowed an xG of only 14.8, which is the best tally in the league. Inter are second in this regard, with a tally of 17.6, but the Nerazzurri have let in the least amount of goals in the league so far.

It is an intriguing study and it is no surprise that Lautaro Martinez has more goals than Dusan Vlahovic, with the Argentine operating in a more attacking system. It would be unfair to say that one team is more attacking than the other, but Juve come across as more rugged defensively and Inter come across as the side which has more flair involved.

Today’s game, as a result, presents a very enticing contest and it could well provide us some signs of the title race.
