Lazio’s Ciro Immobile after Champions League win over Bayern Munich: “I was convinced this team would give everything”

Serie A giants Lazio picked up a vital Champions League Round of 16 first leg win over Bayern Munich in Rome, as they go into the second leg with a 1-0 advantage.

While Lazio could still go out, the win is one of the club’s most memorable European games in recent memory. As Dayot Upamecano was sent off, striker Ciro Immobile’s penalty gave Lazio all three points, as Bayern failed to register a single shot on target in the game.

The Italian had recently scored his 200th game for the club and his strike today was vital. After the game, he spoke to Prime Video about the win (via La Lazio Siamo Noi) and he stated:

“I was convinced that the team would give everything, we wanted to give the people a good evening and we did it. It’s a shame we didn’t take advantage of the other opportunities, also in view of the return leg, but that’s fine. Playing these matches gives you great emotions, sharing them with these people is what we dreamed of as children.”

Lazio have now kept 11 clean sheets in all competitions at home, which is the best record in the top five European leagues, despite their league form in general largely average as they find themselves seventh in the table.
