Milan boss Stefano Pioli reveals Atalanta didn’t deserve a penalty in Serie A draw

Milan and Atalanta held each other to a 1-1 draw in the Serie A yesterday and Rossoneri boss Stefano Pioli has stated that La Dea didn’t deserve to win a penalty.

The Rossoneri fell flat the San Siro and failed to cut the gap between themselves and second-placed Juventus. If not for their loss to Monza last week and the draw against Atalanta this week, Milan could’ve been in the top two already and could be cutting down the gap on league leaders Inter.

Rafael Leao had opened the scoring early on against Atalanta and Teun Koopmeiners fired home from the spot later. Pioli spoke to Milan TV (via TMW) after the game and he stated that La Dea shouldn’t have been given a penalty at all.

“In my opinion it wasn’t a penalty, the result should have been different, we have to do more, even if it’s difficult to concede so little at this level.”

Despite the result, Pioli seemed pleased with the performance and he made it clear as well.

“Yes, I think we did it, we didn’t do well in Monza, Thursday’s match wasn’t easy to manage with such a clear advantage, then Rennes also played well. Tonight there will be few things I will say to the boys on Tuesday about the match, we did well.”

Milan are currently 13 points behind rivals and league leaders Inter and are 12 points clear of sixth-placed Roma. As of now, it does seem as if a fifth-spot will get Champions League football this season
