Stefano Pioli on Milan future after Empoli win: “I hope it lasts as long as possible”

Milan boss Stefano Pioli has stated that he is hoping that his stint at the club lasts as long as possible, following the club’s 1-0 win over Empoli in the Serie A.

A Christian Pulisic goal in the 40th minute was enough for the Rossoneri to win the game and while Empoli did get some opportunities, Pioli’s side managed to tide through and get a vital triumph. As a result, they climbed to second in the table and they could stay there, if Juventus fail to beat Atalanta later today.

Question marks have been raised about Pioli’s future in recent weeks and he was asked about his future in the post-game interview. He told DAZN (via TMW):

“I continue to hear and say that I coach a very helpful and quality group. There is too much talk about the future, the future is uncertain for everyone, even more so for the coach of a big club. We are all focused on the our present and on the next match, this is what matters most. The record of points? What I am experiencing here is something exceptional, I have been giving everything since I arrived and I have received so much from everyone. I can only be happy and I hope it lasts as long as possible.”

Antonio Conte is one name who has been linked with the role at the Rossoneri and it has been reported that there is a possibility that Pioli leaves at the end of the campaign. Thiago Motta has also impressed at Bologna and he could also be an option for the hot-seat, if it becomes available in the summer.
